Amber was just calmly sitting on the train, looking at the wide mountainous landscapes of Finland. She had taken this route numerous times but this time something felt off. She looked up from her book and scanned the train and its passengers. Nothing seemed extremely weird. Some people were sleeping. Some people were reading newspapers or books, some people were looking on their phones and others were looking out the window. There was only one suspicious case: a man with a hat, standing near the end of the wagon while there were still plenty of seats available. He looked up and stared deep into her hazelnut eyes. It was her Dad.
He looked angry and he had the right to be angry! Amber was transporting her grandma’s diamonds from one nursing home to another and no one had informed her Dad. Amber didn’t want to face him right now so she grabbed her bag that was now worth thousands of Euros and moved to the next wagon. She found a seat, placed her bag on the seat next to it, very carefully and sat down. She began reading again. Twenty minutes passed and once again, she had that strange feeling. Surely her Dad hadn’t followed her. He wasn’t a perfect guy but normally he wasn’t that extreme. Amber turned around and saw that it was her Dad now accompanied by two other men. They started walking towards her.
Amber was tired. She had been running for a while now with that heavy but precious bag and she was already six wagons further. How long was this train?
Up next was the wagon with the business people and their assistants. She would have to walk through it instead of running. Her dad and his ‘helpers’ knew that too. They were so close that Amber could see a grin on their faces when she turned around. A grin that grew and grew as she came closer to the seventh wagon. Amber was speed-walking. She smiled at the business people and some of them smiled back. She tried to make herself and her bag not look suspicious.
She had left the wagon. Now was her only chance to get a head start on her Dad’s team. She ran. Three wagons further she realised that there were only two more wagongs left but that the train was also almost at the train station where her mom and step-dad would be waiting for her. Amber reached the end of the train. Her Dad’s ‘gang’ was also almost there and it would still be one whole minute until the train stopped.
The train arrived at the station and Amber had no other choice than to jump off the train. She fell. Everything went black. She heard glass shatter.
The diamonds!
